# Signing in to Madison

## Sign in with a code

Enter your email address and Madison sends you a **6-digit code**. Enter the code to sign in. Codes are valid for a short time and can only be used once, so request a fresh one if it expires.

## Sign in with Google

Prefer one tap? Use **Sign in with Google** with the account that matches your email.

## Setting a password (optional)

You don't need a password to use Madison, codes and Google work fine on their own, but you can set one if you'd prefer.

You can't set a password while registering. Instead, once you're signed in:

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open the user menu

Open the **user menu** at the top of the screen and choose **Password**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Enter a new password

Type a **New Password** and confirm it.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Confirm with your current password

Enter your **Current Password** to confirm the change, then save.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="info" %}
Never set a password before? You won't have a current one to enter, select the **reset password** link in that window and Madison emails you a link to set your password for the first time. Use the same link if you've simply forgotten your current password.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.meetmadison.ai/getting-started/signing-in.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
